My work is inspired by craft and pottery traditions that are sensitive to the beauty of natural materials and attentive to infusing everyday life with aesthetic pleasure.
I have been working with clay for more than 30 years. I studied pottery in Mashiko, Japan and still throw on a wooden Japanese kick wheel. I now work in Brooklyn, where I fire in a gas kiln, and western Massachusetts, where I fire in a wood-burning kiln and collect clay, wood ash, and other materials that I use in my glazes and clay body.
I strive to make simple, functional pieces that are pleasing to look at and satisfying to hold and use.
